Everything you need to know about making a booking

Q: Is it possible to add additional guests beyond the posted occupancy limit?

No, our short-term accommodation license restricts us to a maximum of two guests per bedroom. We can not legally exceed this capacity limit, regardless of the age of the additional guest. 

 

Q: Is it possible to rent for less than three nights at a lower rate?

Typically not. In the low season a two night stay is sometimes possible if the booking is midweek, send us an email and inquire. Two night bookings are also possible if there is a two night hole in the calendar where three nights is not possible.

 

Q: Why do you charge "extra" for the hot tub, cleaning and linens and what is included for those fees?

To keep our rental rates as low as possible, renters chose a la carte what they want to include with their rental. We have found that not all our guests want to use the hot tub (crazy, I know) and many want the option to save money by bringing their own bedding and cleaning themselves at check-out.

 

Cleaning ($125)

The cleaning service includes basic cleaning of the cottage (vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, windows, etc.).  You are required to leave the kitchen clean with all pots, dishes and utensils clean and put away.  You are still required to take place your garbage in the bin at the end of the driveway. If you elect to clean yourself, cleaning supplies and equipment are provided and the cottage needs to be left essentially ready for the next guest. Our staff check the cottage between rentals regardless of whether the departing guest cleaned themselves.

 

Bedding and Towel Service ($40 per room)

The bedding and towel service includes full bedding for one room and towels for two people.  Bedding and towels can be arranged for multiple rooms. If you don't include the linen and towel service, only pillows and mattress covers are provided.

 

Hot Tub ($100)

We charge $100 regardless of rental duration for renters to use the hot tub to cover heating, maintenance, cleaning and depreciation. We do not charge a higher hot tub fee for week-long rentals as these typically occur in the summer when heating costs are lower.

 

Q: How do payments work?

We collect 50% of the reservation total at the time of booking and a second, final payment, 30 days before your rental. 

If the booking is less than 30 days away, we collect the full amount at booking.

As opposed to adding a credit card fee to all bookings, we give renters the option of avoiding this fee and paying by e-transfer. We charge a 4.0% service fee for credit card payments (the rate we are charged by Stripe to process the payment).

The security deposit will be returned via the same method you made payment. The credit card fee is not applied to the security deposit.

E-transfer payments can only be made from a Canadian bank account. International renters have to make payment via credit card.

 

Q: What if I need to cancel my reservation?

If you need to cancel your reservation we will make the period you reserved available again on the website. Payments for optional services, such as the hot tub or linens are refunded immediately, as is the security deposit if it was paid. If the period re-books you will receive a refund of the rental fee less a $50 admin fee and less credit card fees paid to date. Credit card fees are not refunded as those fees are not refunded by Stripe when we process a credit card refund.

 

Q: I see pets are allowed at the Tobermory Cottage property. Are there any limitations or stipulations?

Pets are allowed only at the Tobermory Cottage property and are not allowed at the Orchid Trail or Cedar Shoals properties. All pets must be pre-approved at the time of making the booking request. We only allow mature, house trained dogs and small animals that will remain in their cage during the rental. We do not allow cats. When outside, dogs must be on a leash at all times. dogs left unsupervised in the cottage must be housed in a crate.
